DDD photojournalist genius David Douglas Duncan
If you don't know about this genius of photography, educate yourself by going to the University of Texas at Austin web site (link below).
"In October 1996, world-famous photographer and author David Douglas Duncan donated his archive to the Harry Ransom Center. From that date to the present, the many materials which comprise the archive have been shipped from Duncan's home in the south of France to the Center here in Austin, Texas.
From the beginning, David Douglas Duncan envisioned his archive as an active collection, a tool for scholarship and learning, not merely a body of exhibition photographs waiting for display. To that end, the Center has sought to preserve, organize, catalog, exhibit and make available the wide variety of images and artifacts that comprise Duncan's archive. A finding aid, first constructed in 1997 and now in the process of being updated and expanded, is the chief tool for accessing all the materials in this collection.
To further this commitment, the Center has now constructed this web site as a portal to the David Douglas Duncan Archive. It is intended to serve as an introduction to Duncan, his imagery, publications and exhibitions, and the valuable resources to be found in all his collected materials. A gallery of over 600 images serves as a more comprehensive exposition of Duncan's vision, career and unique spirit, and soon a link to the searchable finding aid will also be included. All the imagery on this web site was produced directly from the optimum original photographic print or matrix in the Duncan Archive."
