Choice Photography - a personal selection and commentary by the Gib

Having been putting a camera up to my eye or my eyeglasses since the 60s I now spend time looking around on the web to find photography and photographic information that delights my appetite for the result of careful viewing of the planet and its inhabitants. And man, is that a load of fun.

wayback photos

I am starting to go through old family photos and old photos of mine not of family and posting them online.

Today two old photos of my late parents.

Picnic table shot at the cottage lot in 1969. As I type this now I am just a few feet away from this spot, I am inside the cottage that was built in 1969-70.

Pailoun's story - from Armenia to America

This site contains images (composites of photos and text) about the life of an Armenian woman born in Turkey in 1901 and who came to America.  It is a very moving story. Beautifully constructed site.

(A high speed internet connection is probably a necessity for viewing)

Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir on flickr

She lives in Iceland and is a portrait artist and photographer and one of the most popular photographers on flickr. Her photographs cover a range of subjects: self-portraits, portraits of her children, Icelandic landscape, objects in motion, multiple exposures (quite a few in which she appears twice). She has great skill and wit and imagination. She is also strikingly beautiful.

A serious artist with a great sense of humour.

I particularly enjoy the photographs of Iceland. It is a place I dream of visiting.

An expert in finding old cameras and developing the old film found inside them

Gene M has been buying old cameras for several years and often finds unfinished rolls of film inside. He has mastered the art and science of using current film chemistry to develop old film. But more importantly he opens these "time capsules" and we are then able to see the past.

here is a recent page showing an old Brownie camera that used the old 620 film format  http://westfordcomp.com/classics/brownieflash620/june06/index.htm

The link below is the main photographic page for the site. Click on Films Found in Old Cameras and marvel at what Gene has accomplished in his photographic archaeology.
